Over at Bitch, they were discussing action movies and how Hollywood still is reluctant to let a female star carry one. There's probably no way a bunch of older and uh, "career-challenged" women could be in a movie like The Expendables, but I can dream, can't I?
Here's my cast for the female Expendables: Pam Grier, Michelle Yeoh, Cynthia Rothrock, Brigitte Lin, Dixie Peabody, Meiko Kaji, Tura Satana, Christina Lindberg, Linda Hamilton, and Sigourney Weaver. Stephanie Jacobsen and Summer Glau could be the token youngsters who tag along.
What kick-ass women have you missed seeing on the silver screen?

I would also add a "could have beens" category for women who once showed promise, but then went soft . . . like Umma Thurman, after showing such ass kicking potential in Kill Bill and playing a comic book villain in one of the Batman movies, she went romantic comedy. You have to wonder, did she always use a stunt double, or did she receive some knocks to the head by Gordon Liu in Kill Bill 2 that later impaired her judgment?!!
Then there is Daryl Hannah. When I saw her as the evil nurse in Kill Bill, I was like "and you have been wasting that talent all your life in roles like the sentimental mermaid!!??"
That is why actresses need to find their inner bad asses early, so they don't have to look back and lament over what they could have been. You will have to console me mightily if Summer Glau ever sinks to romantic comedy!
